Zeno's Home Page

This web site is maintained by Dave Mitchell.

I've spent most of my adult life teaching (physics, programming, program design) or writing (courses, books, papers, programs). At 81 I'm still programming, these days mostly in Java (written for CHDK and SDM) as well as in C for the Arduino - see here.

For more than 45 years I've been associated with the name Zeno - see here for an autobiographical explanation.

I retired from IBM in January 2000 and after a couple of years of part-time consultancy, became a postgraduate student, pursuing an MA in History of Film and Visual Media at Birkbeck College, University of London. You can read more about that side of my life, including essays I wrote, here.

I was elected a director of the IBM UK Pensions Trust in November 2002. You can discover my reasons for standing for election, including details of the complaint I submitted to the UK Pensions Ombudsman, by looking at the website of the Association of Members of IBM UK Pension Plans. I stood again in November 2005 and was relected for another term. I ceased to be a director at the end of April 2008.

Totnes Castle from the air

When we moved to Totnes, I became very interested in taking aerial photographs using a radio-controlled camera lofted by a kite. These days most of my photos are on Flickr. I'm currently the admin for the world-wide Kite Aerial Photography Forum which has several hundred members around the world.

After a very happy year on a 'Creative Writing' course run in Totnes by Chris Waters, in 2006 I found myself writing first a play and then film scripts, followed by a happy week on an Arvon Foundation writing course. You can read more about this here.

I'm the webmaster of my wife Janet's website.

I'm also currently the webmaster for (and on the committee of) a number of local organisations:
